It all depends on the game. Many games just pool the IP address together so he would just pick them out at random and start DoSing them, or maybe he was DoSing the server itself. I wouldnt know because, again it depends on the game.

I think its very well possible he couldve used a botnet. There are many bots that can be rented for some cash, or even used one of the more common bot programs to acquire his own. Nowadays its really hard to DoS nodes on a network without using a DDoS with a bot. Simply because all the old methods dont work to. The only other effective way to remotely DoS someone(without access) is to exploit a DoS vulnerability in a service. Since that is WAY cooler(still not very cool because its the cowards 'win') he wouldve bragged his ass off about that instead of bragging about his lame DDoS he seemed so proud of.

Just some of my opinions about the situation.

1) I think the only efected way would be to use a proxy to connect to the game ..

May he get your Ip through the cmd "netstat" command or he uses a Network sniffer like Wiresshark

DOS Attacks:

To understand how the most DOS attack work it is important to undeerstand how the network protocols work

1) http://securityoverride.com/ar.....ticle_id=7

2) Syn Flooding attack

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SYN_flood

3) Ping of deatch (does not work on most OS)

http://infinityexists.com/vide.....-of-death/

4)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I.....gmentation

http://tools.cisco.com/securit.....lertId=306

I do not think that he has an bot net which will do the DDOS.

Hi guys,

So I was playing a game of Dota (a WC3 mod) and some dude started raging and then he started kicking people off. He was not the host. I asked him how he was doing it and he said DDOS. So I have a basic understanding of it, but my question isn't about that. My question is, how was he able to grab everyones IP? I'm guessing that he must have been able to get each specific persons IP and then he targeted them. So 1) How is one able to get players IPs while NOT being host? 2) What are some ways to protect yourself against this? I know it's rather difficult to protect against a DDOS attack, especially if there are thousands of zombies, but how can I block my IP during a gaming session in Windows XP? Unfortunately, Ubuntu and Backtrack don't help me much in the gaming department, great for everything else though. Thanks for your time in advance.

3) Also, what is the general "theory" to tracing DDOS attacks. I know they can be very difficult because of the zombie computers, especially if several thousands are infected with other tools. However, what would be the overall procedure to trace such things.

Dreamcasts can apparently play burnt CD-R's without any modding, but some can't. I've heard to look for one that is manufactured in 1999 and has a "1 in a circle" on the bottom. Does anyone know a way to know for sure if a system will be compatible with burnt games? I don't want to buy a system only to find out it doesn't work. Thanks in advance.

From what I understand, this really isn't a good idea.

you'll be going through pen drives pretty quick.

Solid state drives aren't the best thing to use for temp files (and ram is temp on crack).

reading isn't such a bitch, but writing / reading / deleting CONSTANTLY to your pen drive will shorten its life drastically.

This is why some people (if not most people) disable Swap when using an OS from a pen drive or SSD.

Please just put your email in your profile so you arent spamming it around.

Theoretically with a softmod you can hack a PSP's wifi capabilities to support packet injection and then you would need to get to run some packet injection code and cracking software. I dont have any first hand experiance with that stuff(though ive been thinking about looking into it), id recommend trying to see if you can do a complete softmode to make it run linux. Prob couldnt play games but itd be badass.

ZCool it doesnt matter they KEEP doing it no matter what. No they do not bother to check if others have tried first at all. You must just sit and wait for the idiot that tries this but has just a tad bit too much info in their profile so you can track em and hassel them down. I asked for the possibility of posting their IP addresses or putting up some sort of better warning but Patchy doesnt feel like it.
